/ About the project

Lico is a digital experience designed to help autistic children navigate everyday situations through personalized visual narratives. Inspired by the Social Stories approach, the app allows parents, caregivers and educators to create simple stories that explain routines, environments and activities in a more predictable and approachable way.

At the center of the experience is Lico, a friendly 3D character that can be customized to represent each child more closely. Users can build complete scenes using different rooms, furniture, objects and everyday elements, creating narratives that feel personal, familiar and connected to real-life situations.

/ PROBLEM

Everyday situations such as getting dressed, brushing teeth, going to school or visiting a new place can involve uncertainty and require additional preparation for some autistic children. Existing visual materials are often static or generic, making it difficult for families and professionals to create stories that reflect a child’s specific environment, routine and needs.

/ SOLUTION

I designed Lico as a flexible visual storytelling system. Users could customize a 3D character and compose scenes from a library of environments, furniture and everyday objects, then organize those scenes into personalized narratives. The interface and brand were intentionally calm and approachable, using a soft visual language, friendly forms and a restrained color system designed to reduce unnecessary visual intensity while keeping interactions clear and engaging.

/ RESULTS

The result was a scalable product system that transformed the creation of personalized social narratives into a visual and intuitive experience. Instead of relying on fixed templates, Lico gave each story its own characters, spaces and context, creating a foundation that could continuously expand with new situations, environments and objects while maintaining a consistent and accessible experience.

/ PROJECT OVERVIEW

The experience was designed around personalization because no two children, routines or situations are exactly the same. Rather than asking users to adapt to a predefined story, Lico provided a set of building blocks that could be combined to reflect familiar people, spaces and everyday moments. Character customization helped make the protagonist more relatable, while the 3D environment system made it possible to recreate situations with greater context.

That same sense of care shaped the visual identity. Lico was created as a warm and friendly character rather than a clinical guide, and the interface avoided unnecessary visual noise, aggressive contrasts and overly stimulating interactions. The result was a product where brand, interface and storytelling worked together to make preparation for everyday situations feel clearer, more personal and more welcoming.
